My grandmother was an intelligent and successful business woman in the 1950s who enjoyed buying and selling properties, had a huge sense of humor, and enjoyed travel. She set an example for me on setting goals, enjoying business, and never forgetting to have a sense of humor. However, on another level of influence, she modeled courage, vision, and tenacity. Her influence helped shape my path as a business woman.
Our influence shapes lives every day, whether it’s how we lead, how we serve, how we treat others, the character that we model . . . the lists of ways we impact others is extensive but one thing for sure, we are creating a legacy. Why not be intentional about it?
Legacy is important because:
- We are stewards of our world. We can leave an influence that makes the world a better place for those that will follow in the next generation.
- It has power for good or bad. We can help change the world for good and leave the world a better place than when we found it. And conversely, we can leave destruction in our path. We have a choice within our grasp.
- The power of our lives helps take the next generation to a level beyond what we could only imagine. Our influence combined with their place in the world multiplies the impact that can occur for their generation.
Legacy is not what’s left tomorrow when you’re gone. It’s what you give, create, impact, and contribute today while you’re here that then happens on. — Rashseed Ogunlaru, Author
